Box Office Predictions – Weekend of July 15

Before I head out into the craze of Harry Potter–I skipped Monday’s press screening because it was in 3-D–it’s time to tend to my weekly box office predictions. I didn’t do too badly last week, but it was hardly the redemptive showing I sought — Transformers: Dark of the Moon held up remarkably well for a major blockbuster (that is, it ‘only’ dropped 51%), which I certainly didn’t expect. Zookeeper opened 20% weaker than I thought it would. But on the whole, I was competitive… [Read more]

Last week was, well, just one of those weeks… nearly every one of my predictions was a complete and utter failure. Transformers: Dark of the Moon didn’t perform like the last two, instead increasing over the weekend period of its six-day opening. Cars 2 dropped more than any Pixar film in history, despite the added advantage of a Sunday night when kids didn’t have to go to bed early. Tom Hanks’ Larry Crowne tanked miserably despite being headlined by two big stars… [Read more]

Welcome back to the weekly box office predictions column. In one major way, this weekend is easier to predict than usual: Transformers: Dark of the Moon has already opened (my review) and can easily be compared to its predecessor, which was also released on a Wednesday. But anything can happen on a four-day holiday weekend, and there are still two Friday releases (Tom Hanks’ Larry Crowne and Selena Gomez’ Monte Carlo) to grapple with, so buckle your seat-belts, folks… [Read more]

Hello and welcome back to my weekly box office predictions column. Last week, I nailed my safe bet (Green Lantern) and missed the mark on my gamble (Mr. Popper’s Penguins). However, even if the Jim Carrey family comedy failed to materialize on opening weekend, I predict that it will have great summertime legs, even with [...]

Greetings and apologies for the absence of last week’s box office column, which was the result of a nasty bug that infected us here at Bucket Reviews headquarters. It was a rather uneventful weekend, anyway, as the vastly overrated Super 8 was the only big opener, taking in a so-so $35.4 million. Judy Moody and [...]

I’m back on the box office beat this weekend, just in time for the summer’s biggest action blockbusters. Luckily, I get to ease back into things, as there is only one new wide release (X-Men: First Class), though there are two expanding limited releases that could factor prominently into the top 10 (Woody Allen’s Midnight [...]
Box Office Predictions – Weekend of Apr 8

Last weekend offered yet another unpredictable frame at the box office. While anybody could have told you that Hop would take the top spot and that Source Code and Insidious would follow, very few predicted the actual numbers accurately. The jelly bean-pooping Easter bunnies earned a whopping $37.5m (nearly as much as the more publicized [...]

Welcome to another round of box office predictions. Last weekend, I overestimated the thought-to-be big-ticket Sucker Punch considerably, but otherwise improved on my embarrassing forecast for the prior frame. Sure, I low-balled Limitless and The Lincoln Lawyer as far as holdovers were concerned, but who could have guessed those films would see such small drops? [...]

It would appear that my big return to box office forecasting last weekend didn’t turn out so well, as all three films–Limitless, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Paul–outperformed my conservative predictions. In the case of the first film, the gap was quite large. But the unique thing about playing this game is that completely educated guesses [...]

Hello again readers — guess who’s back on the box office beat this weekend? It has been another demanding semester at school for me, so I have not been writing this column as regularly as I should be, but now that I’m on Spring Break, there is no excuse for not posting predictions. So let’s [...]
