"Fighting For Freedom In Iraq"
By: Danny Baldwin

The movie industry is heavily democratic. The arts are heavily dominated by this political party. On the internet, I am one of the few movie critics that belong to the Republican party. I am for the war on Iraq, which is currently in progress. Most of my time on the internet is spent, reading review after review, by my fellow critics; most of which are democrats, who strongly oppose this war. After reading several essays written by these individuals, who would like to “give peace a chance,” my contradicting opinions have left me extremely frustrated with both these critics, as well as popular actors and actresses who are opposed to the war on Iraq. Don’t misunderstand the point I’m trying to get across; I am all for freedom of speech. People have the right to express their opinions. And, utilizing this American right, I would like to counter the debate that many of my fellow writers are angrily posing to the Bush administration, and the United States government as a whole. I believe that eliminating Sadaam Hussein and his regime, via war, will clearly make Iraq a better place to live. Future generations in this Middle-Eastern country will prosper due to this.

Weapons inspectors had been in Iraq, up until this point in time, since the Persian Gulf War. In the past week and a half, we have discovered more weapons and weapon-making plantations, than the inspectors would have in an entire life-time. In the time that it would’ve taken them to find and destroy these weapons, which we now have either bombed or have possession of, Sadaam Hussein would’ve been able to torture and kill more innocent civilians, than the final amount of casualties in this war. I’ve agreed with Bush from the beginning, and I’m going to stay with him until the end; in this situation, war was the best option, and war will not fail us. How long will it take people against the war to realize this? Maybe, when we reform the Iraqi’s country? Maybe when the people in this society are finally smiling again? Or will they only be happy, out of their own selfishness, when the economy and stock market begin to boom again; after the battle has ended? Many would call me ludicrous for basically denouncing the right to protest. Despite what you may think, I am not denouncing it at all. You should be able to stand up for what you believe is right. But, this time, our government has the situation under control. Going to war will make the Iraqi’s problems better, not worse! Sadaam is the man that is wrongdoing, not Bush. In my opinion, going against the war, is saying that you have no pride in your country. By battling in Iraq, we will be making the world more a more peaceful place in the future. This war was mandatory to ensure happiness in future generations. Our military will not fail their mission.

On rare occasion, celebrities abuse their power. This is one of those rare occasions. Why are Hollywood’s biggest stars all still airing anti-war commercials when we’re already at war? All that says, to me, is that they don’t support our brave and courageous troops. One documentary making asshole named Michael Moore bothers me in particular. His Oscar winning speech, which completely denounced Bush, the war, and our troops, was way over the top. If I had been sitting in the front row, at the awards, I would’ve ran onto the stage and literally kicked his wimpy little ass. The only reason Moore tries to create such controversy, is because he wants to attract attention. At first, I thought his now award-winning documentary Bowling for Columbine was wonderfully creative and unique. Now I want to spit on it. If you would like to see this absolutely absurd and unfaithful act against our country, I’ve put it up on the site, and to listen to listen to it – click here. I’m glad that he was booed off the stage. And, not only did he verbally assault the President, he brought all of the other nominees in the category up, to do it with him. They stood behind him, without knowing what he was going to say (I saw several of the shaking their heads while he was speaking), and he completely attacks the United States government. Mr. Moore, I don’t like to use such pervasive language, but, fuck off. By protesting against the war on Iraq, celebrities aren’t only making a fool out of themselves, they are making a fool out of their work.

As the pot begins to boil, we will begin to reform the Iraqi country, or in the words of Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, “We will be in Iraq as short as possible, and as long as needed.” My opinions will continue to conflict with my fellow critics, and so it be. If and only, when this war is over and the next election comes, will we be to test President Bush’s worthiness; though I will stand by his decisions until the end. As I wrap this essay up, I do not have anything more to say, and am glad I have got what I have just stated off of my chest; and offered it to the public. “We need to go to war, in order to maintain peace,” an old, wise man said.
