A Sorrow Welcome
Danny Baldwin · June 13, 2005
Hello, everyone--fans, foes, everyone in between and those who are first encountering me--and welcome to my new 'blog. What has provoked me to start a new 'blog, you ask? Well, it's really very spontaneous, in truth, but I think I may actually stick with this one. There is one reason for this, and the 'blog's title explains it all:
mul·ti·far·i·ous
adj. Having great variety; diverse.
What the fuck, you still ask? Well, basically, in calling the 'blog multifarious, I have decided to allow it to encompass anything and everything I want it to. It won't be about politics, movies, my life, whatever--it'll just be about "whatever I feel like, gosh!" as Napoleon Dynamite might exclaim. And so, I hope you join me for the ride. As summer vacation at my high school approaches, I will have more and more time to ramble on and on. And here's to starting!
With that said, I do not greet you with smiles, chuckles, rainbows, or chocolate-dunked strawberries. I greet you with the news that a man who can't keep his plastic dick in his pants or imaginary wings from lifting him onto a nebula of perversion is on the loose. That's right: Michael Jackson has been proven innocent of ten charges, by reasonable doubt.
Eleven women and one man thought that keeping perverted pornography--and we're not talking simple PentHouse here, folks--was okay. They thought that dementing kids to the extent in which they believed that keeping pornography was perfectly normal was okay. They thought that speaking in a voice eleven octaves and then some higher than a transvestite was okay. They thought that sleeping with all the little boys and girls and having fantasies while doing so was okay. What has America come to, my friends?
Are we on another planet? Does the family not exist anymore? Does no one recognize that if a little boy and his head-in-the-clouds-mother wanted money instead of justice that they would do so with Michael Jackson outside of court? It's a sad day for the American Judicial System, indeed. Evil is among us, and it's not just in the form of the Islamo-Fascist Terrorist.
I try not to let this type of thing get a hold of me, but this is too much. I was a young boy when old O.J. Simpson was convicted; I'm not used to this type of thing. Is the Standard American Juror the same person that attends tapings of Jerry Springer on Friday Nights?
Anyhow, I shall move on to brigter things. Take, for example, how awesomely awesome this week is going to be for the grand art of mainstream cinema. (Is that an oxymoron or what?) Despite having to study for finals and Michael Jackson getting off, I couldn't be happier that Batman Begins and The Perfect Man are being released. The former is definitely going to kick some major ass; critics are raving about the direction of the masterful Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia), and the special effects are bound to be flippin' awesome. I'll be very interested to see how Christian Bale does in the role of Batman, too; I rented The Machinist, which he lost eighty pounds to star in, this weekend and still need to watch it. Too bad I didn't catch it at the San Diego Film Festival last September; I saw Shane Carruth's dopey low-budget sci-fi experiment instead. The Perfect Man is a completely different movie from anthing in the realm of Film Festivals, though. Despite starring the sometimes-obnoxious Heather Locklear and receiving negative buzz from critics, I'm psyched just 'cuz it stars Hilary Duff. Anyone who knows me knows that I've been completely gaga over her since I first saw A Cinderella Story, a good movie which spawned my interest in the masterful "Lizzie McGuire" TV-shows and film-adaptation. I'll 'blog about her plenty in the future.
For now, I'll leave it at that. I'll be back on later tonight to share my thoughts about Major League Baseball, Domestic Movie Box Office trends, and anything else that pops up in my head along the way.
