It is very interesting that they would actually choose to make a movie set in the 40's in 2001. But, I enjoyed The Majestic just because of this. They have seemingly cut down on movies set in earlier times, and drifted into the future, in today's movie business. The Majestic was most triumphant, because of the views and conflicts resolved between the people during in a time period many of us are very familiar with. This movie was exceptionally above average.

Overall, Jim Carrey was quite good in this film. At some parts, his comedic side started to unravel, but then he quickly swept back into a dramatic type of character. I will say this was an evident challenge for him, but I think once he go the hang of it, Carey was overwhelmingly fabulous. I think he should continue acting in more serious movies; it makes him using his acting skills to his full potential's worth.

I loved the uniqueness to the cinematography in this film. The camera's different shots amazed me. Each shot had a distinct of intricacy. It was interesting to see which scenes they shot steady, and which they shot from a more shaky view. The camera made a definite impact on the mood of The Majestic, it showed exactly what the filmmakers wanted to emphasize on, allowing you to get a good grasp of the feel of each situation. It beautifully showed me the essence of the true art of film.

I will say most of my fellow critics, besides Roger Ebert, absolutely hated this film. I think that The Majestic is a unique, intricate masterpiece; as well as an excellent example of wonderful filmmaking. This is a definite buy for people who love mature, fun movies (even though it's rated PG it's intended for adults). The Majestic offers a triumphant and inspiring performance for all filmmakers alike.
